Open That Bottle Night!

The night we are all waiting for is quickly approaching! This Saturday, February 28th is the annual "Open That Bottle Night" - the one night of the year where you can open a bottle of treasured wine, without feeling guilty.

Everyone seems to have a bottle or two of wine in their cellar that they are saving for a special occasion that never seems to actualize! So on Saturday, join people around the world to open a great bottle, share it with friends and enjoy great memories that a bottle of wine creates. Search through your cellar to find wines that have been pushed to the back, perhaps with a faded label, or with pencil scratchings that tell you when and where you are supposed to drink it. Proudly dust off your wine, display it for friends and open it with pride on Saturday night, beginning at 5pm PST.

Chatelaine's Wine Prospects

  Chatelaine Magazine, a highly-acclaimed Canadian women's magazine, just released their March 2009 magazine that showcases Prospect Winery Census Count Chardonnay as one of the top bottles for this month. Columnists Annie Ried and Kelly Robson chose the wine to enjoy with creamy pastas "Typical Chardonnay flavours (pear, apple, oak and butter) mingle with a hint of vanilla, while the lingering finish adds a touch of honey."

To ensure that consumers can pair their favourite meals with great wines, Chatelaine also has a Wine Chooser, run by Wine Writer Natalie MacLean. You can check out lots of great menu pairings and find your favourite Prospect wine to enjoy over a great dinner with friends.

   

A Historical Day in the Okanagan

After months of much debate and discussion, the BC Provincial Cabinet has approved the name change of the beautiful Okanagan town of Westbank to the District of West Kelowna. Before being approved by the BC governenment, residents spent many months debating the pros and cons of the name change, with a narrow vote won in favour of the new name. Residents are hopeful the close association with the internationally recognized Kelowna, will contribute to the growth of the business community additional tourists and marketing

Whatever the name, West Kelowna is a beautiful gem in the Okanagan, with rich soil that produces juicy fruits including the grapes harvested into making Prospect wines. Residents are being encouraged by City Council to be "masters of their own destiny" and create a new history for residents and tourists alike to explore. My hope is that residents will come together, perhaps over a bottle of Prospect wine, remembering the past town stories and history and dream about what the future will be in West Kelowna. Perhaps in years to come, there will be a new story to go on a label of Prospect wines!
