The Phenomenal Prospect Pinot Gris!

I'm not sure if you've tasted the new 2008 Prospect Ogopogo's Lair Pinot Grigio, but if you haven't, stop everything you are doing and get to your nearest liquor store. This wine is outstanding - huge congrats to Winemaker Wade Stark! It's not just me who thinks this wine is outstanding. It has been the top selling VQA BC White Wine in BC Liquor Stores for the past three months and it is flying off the shelves across the country! People love the wine: phenomenal quality with great juicy and rich tropical fruit aromas, a lovely balanced wine with rich clean finish. It retails for just $14.99 here in BC, with pricing ranging in liquor stores across the country. Be sure to get some before it is sold out which may be sooner that you think with so many people discovering its quality and value.

The 2009 vintage has begun!

After a slow and cold start to the season, our winemaker Wade Stark, must finally feeling some relief! As I was driving in to work this morning, checking out the vineyards as I carefully kept my eyes on the road, it appears that most of our vineyards have experienced bud break. Bud break is so important in the winemaking world, as it signifies the first signs of life in the vineyard - to expand your knowledge of the vineyard life cycle, you can check out my handy friend wikipedia for their detailed description! 

I found Wade when I got to work and he definitely shared my excitment! I learned that due to our cold winter and spring here in the Okanagan, we were actually 10 days behind last year for our vineyard growth. Everything is charted here at the winery from previous vintages, so that Wade can anticipate changes in the vineyard before they happen. Wade said not to worry, even though we are behind, he will be carefully monitoring the vineyards each day and if needed he can trim the canopy of vines to let the sun and heat in to ensure the harvest will be on schedule.This picture was in Wade's files from last year's vintage - definitely a couple weeks into growth, but great inspiration for what the vineyards will become now that they have started to grow. What a relief for Wade- I can't imagine the pressure of being a winemaker, with so much you cannot control, like the weather!

I'll be sure to check back in with Wade in a couple weeks to see how the vineyards are progressing and I'll also carefully drive and keep my eye on the vineyards as I drive to work each morning!
